Hello Planot,
I'va a quenstion about the bass rensponse: You wrote that your driver needn't any box because the stick always make pressure and no cancellation of the wawes occurs. But if you look at the corner of the stick, when its front moves forward it make pressure, bat the back of the stick makes depressure in the same way of normal speaker, so the bass renspose should drop down. Is this right, if not why?
Could you so kind to write down the sesitivity of your prototype?
Thank you and keep up with your good work!

Aiace, thank you.
All I can do is speculate on how it works at this time without the appropriate measuring equipment. I do not know HOW it works just that it DOES work. (There are instruments that would allow one to photograph sound waves but I do not have access to that technology.)
As others have observed precision in construction is a strict prerequisite for high fidelity performance of my design.
The You Tube video of a driver (built by another person, on his own, using my principals) is a "basic" proof of concept prototype not intended to be a high fidelity transducer.
A physicist and engineer together have "speculated" that the Planot driver works by the principal of "vortex shedding."

As to the efficiency of the “concept,” that is relative to construction and execution.
How efficient is a 10" woofer?
It depends on many different factors derived from the moving mass and rigidity of the diaphragm and the power of the motor and the unit driving it, etc.
I am driving my prototype 3 (P3) with a 75 watt per channel Van Alstine transistor power amplifier together with a Van Alstine transistor preamp. With the volume control at 12 o'clock and sitting 6 foot away I am able to play music at an average, satisfying listening level.
P3 has a diaphragm 31" tall and one inch square in cross section.
P3 is my prototype, personally hand built, by me alone, and a single unit not a stereo pair, with motor components cobbled from hard drives. (They were very large hard drives with large coils and magnet structures that are larger that most hard drives you can purchase in 2013.)
When precision of fabrication and adjustments stray from the ideal these factors become parasitic and decrease the efficiency considerably. I have found that even small adjustments of certain parameters will make a significant difference in efficiency. That is all I have to say about efficiency for now.
I will eventually publish more data on my Web site.

Well that begs the question, if you don't have a theory as to how it works, how did come up with the design?
I'm curious, if the triangular rod were replaced with a round one, how the sound might change.
Palnot.............thanks for your time an vary cool speaker........
You know how we all are...........or can be...we wontet it all........we wontet it NOW...an it got be better than any thing we had......tuff call......but i have never seen any thing like your speaker.....................an now as saw on youtube...i have heard sound from it i think..................looks like fun to me....keep up the good work....

TYU, thanks for your kind words of encouragement. I am a winner not a whiner and don't want to list all of the problems I have encountered over they years trying to bring this idea into reality. I am working as fast as I am able to. You are correct that many people today are impatient but also they are eager rush to judgement. Please visit my Web site occasionally, to check for updates.
Thanks again,
John

Thanks MAXRO.
I did not say I did not have my own theory: I do.
Please refer to other posts in this thread and my Web site for my thoughts on how the Planot driver functions.
Thanks to everyone here! I need to get back to the workbench. Goodbye for now.
John
A speaker designer that is unable to measure the sensitivity of his own design is bit... unusual.

I did not say I have not.
Hi,
One can ask what planet Planot thinks he's living on, just
regurgating the same old guff year after year of impending
public demonstrations that never happen and insisting that
it works when it simply doesn't. Utterly clueless conjecture
that both very poor prototypes are a "proof of concept"
that will work "properly" with "precision engineering".
Who cares how anyone thinks it works when it doesn't ?
rgds, sreten.

yeah i remember seen this thread a verry long time ago 🙂
My personal interpretation of a planot:
A tube made of a 5 cm stripe of fiber glass and a 25 cm stripe of acrylate, both 0.5 mm, excited frrom the bottom (exciter at the fiber glass part).
Treble performance is very bad. lower midrange / upper bass is there and performing quite OK. No one-note tube sound as one might expect. For someone who knows how to deal with modal behaviour like Oliver Mertineit or the guys from NXT it might be possible to design a working product.

Great to see measurements, but I fail to see the resemblance to Planot. Yours looks more like a Linaeum/ Rubanoide meets half-wave resonator.

Why should the planot be different? The wave front "forgets" very soon how exactly the excitation looked like.

Hi,
Still flogging this very dead horse ?
What makes you think anyone would want to vote for such a pile of nonsense ?

You represent the worst of your type of member in forums in general and the greatest impediment to intelligent intercourse. Its your ilk who would kill vision and creativity. That is the last I have to say to you and your kind; the pestilence of open and free discussion.
