So I'm trying to build a simple tremolo box. Due to my lack of expertise and basic
knowledge of electronics this has proven to be more difficult than anticipated.
TLDR: Using the circuit below causes audible pops/beats (in sync with the oscillator)
that are prevalent if the guitar is not making any output. Any help to minimize
or eradicate the pop would be greatly appreciated!
I had most of the components needed for a BYOC tremolo laying around (at least
according to their instruction sheet) but that circuit ended up sounding very broken.
It is possible that I assembled things incorrectly, but I'd rebuilt it several times.
I ended up using the oscillator from the BYOC spec and frankensteining it with the
few other random trem schematics I could find. Finally, the following circuit started
sounding like a tremolo! The only problem now is the pop/buzz/beat that is noticeable
when the guitar is not being played. The severity of the beat seems to increase slightly
as the speed of the oscillation is adjusted (R13 should be a pot in the schematic).

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
A circuit like this needs a high pass filter on the output to remove the oscillator signal from the guitar signal. Many of the old tube amp schematics show this like the 18W Marshall, Vox AC30 and old Gibson amps. There will be four or five capacitors in series with the signal and a resistor at each junction to ground. You may be simply just running out of headroom, try shorting out R7.
