Hi all,
I was wondering how to design a TL loudspeaker, with a 2.5 ways crossiver (1 tweeter, 2 midbass)
The lower midbass would be used for baflt step compensation, so it will only play low frequencies.
That's the problem! For the mids, the TL sees one driver, but for the lows it sees 2 drivers.
How should I design it? Like if it would use only one driver, like if it would use both of them all the time, or another way?
Thanks for help
Alex

Definetely like you have both !
I'd checkout the MTM designs like the Ariel and Seas Odin
that exploit the twin units to smoothen the bass response.
And then possibly adapt a 2.5 way design for T/L loading.
Below ~ 400Hz there no difference between a 2.5 and a MTM.
🙂 /sreten.

Hi Bricolo,
I've built two pairs of 2.5 way TLs and I calculated the dimensions for the TL based on using two drivers. I must not have messed things up too badly because they sound pretty good. Logically, it makes sense to do your calculations based on twodrivers since the real advantage of using a TL configuration in the first place is to improve on the low end response. The first pair I built used two 6.5" drivers while the second pair used two 8" drivers.

By the way Bricolo....
Your topic mentions crossover, but I'm not sure you have a question about crossovers for a 2.5 way. Do you have a question? I'd be glad to share what I did.

In fact, I mentionned 2.5 ways crossovers to explain that the 2 drivers aren't always used at the same time.
For a D'Appolito configuration (or any other 2 way system with multiple midbass), you won't have this problem. So I precised that my question was for 2.5 ways
That's all 😉
