I was wondering about transistor power dissipation and how it relates to maximum output power from a transistor.
Especially in regards to it reproducing a sine wave as when using it for an amplifier.
Are there any rules or calculations one can use?

ESP has a couple of papers explaining what the transistors do when feeding a resistor load and when feeding a reactive load.
If you design for a resistive load you run a high risk of blowing up your amplifier.
