I know there has been multiple discussions before but would like some color and direction. At one point I read that output transistors don't have to be matched and then later heard the opposite for a 4 output transistor stage. When you are matching trans what are the most critical parameters to match? Are you matching at each stage? I.e. Input vas as well as output? I don't currently have a transistor test set but have a multimeter continuity tester wire sniffer and a number of other things like that. From an engineer I was told the fluke transistor tester is great. However he doesn't do audio so it may also be a little more then what is needed? What can I do in the interim and what's a good transistor test set to order?
I have one of these and it is very useful. It gives a good indication of condition, hfe and even reading capacitors. It is not very accurate but that doesn't matter as the readings are constant.
