transistor circuit to replace transformer in ribbon mic?

I'd be interested too. I had a couple of the old Tannoy ribbons and they were very low output with a fairly rubbish transformer. I tried lots of things to amplify the ribbon directly but kept running into lots of noise. The transformer increases the output voltage without increasing the noise.

I also had my mic magnets reenergised by a specialist repairer. He used something which looked like it would stop all the watches in the vicinity, but it certainly did the trick. And I got the ribbons replaced, which worked well.

Good luck with your search - maybe there is a circuit out there!
