I am looking at a friend's Arcam A60 amplifier which suddenly stopped working.
I have found that the transformer is only putting out a few millivolts on the secondary side despite getting the full 230 volts on the primary side.
I have never had a transformer fail before and wonder what could have caused it other than the windings shorting but what would have caused that?

might have a thermal fuse that may be able to be replaced..
thats if it blew, and if its not totally embeded in the transformer.. lol

Check the primary for continuity. If none, then Skinnyboy is right about the thermal fuse. However I've not seen replaceable types for many years.

yes, but you may be able to replace the non replaceable one.. lol if you're desperate... 😀 ahum...
Thanks guys - there is no continuity on the primary side.
I'll email Arcam and ask them if there is a thermal fuse as I am (or was) fairly sure that there isn't.
(I just hope they are still talking to me after that A60 Gainclone project 😉 )
