In sure this has been discussed previously but I can't find any info (bit more difficult using tapatalk).
What's the general consensus on adding additional windings to toroidal transformers???
I have a 2 x 12v 30va that I'm using for the analogue output stage in my CDP. As I wanted to remove the original transformer , I needed an independent 4.3vAC winding. I tried a few wraps of thin insulated wire on the toroid and worked out that I needed about 46 wraps. I spaced them evenly around the core and got what I wanted.
I'm sure I've broken many cardinal rules but I'm very kean to learn.......
You can see the white insulated additional winding in the picture 😀

How many VA total draw for the entire core?
If it does not exceed the 30VA rating and does not compromise the primary to secondary isolation/breakdown ratings then I don't see a problem.

The transformer was over rated in any case so I can't see that a few VA for the display will be an issue. Just wanted to make sure I was doing it "right" 😉
