Basically, if you're driving 4 ohm loads, you want 18V-0-18V, and if you're driving 8 ohm loads, you want up to 25V-0-25V.....although some would recommend going a little bit lower.
For a stereo gainclone, you'll want around 160VA. Using a 300VA can bring some improvements if you can afford it.

Re: transformer
You can Avel-Lindberg transformers from Parts Express.

Recently I got a good deal on some 24-0-24 5A EI core trafos. You need two of those to get a 2 rail supply but sometimes the price is good enough to justify buying two. (I got six of them for $10/each. Worth it.) Part Express also has some like this but I think they are about $20 each so getting a toroidal is pretty comparable.

OK, I'll be more precise this time around.
If you're driving a 4 ohm load, buy:

If you're driving an 8 ohm load, buy:
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=122-615
If you're driving an 8 ohm load and want to spend a little bit more money for a small performance gain, buy:

40VCT for a Gainclone is too high, no?
Rectified, its over 55vdc. If I recall, the power supply for a gainclone would be 40VDC max@8ohm.

Reading the other thread, he says there that it is a 20V CT, and supplies +/- 18V rectified, which doesn't sound quite right, and is rather on the low side for a gainclone.
40VCT is the same as 20V-0-20Vac. This will give about +-30Vdc when offload, after rectification and smoothing.
A 20Vac-0 + 20Vac-0 dual secondary can be used equally well.
The 20VCT will give about +-15Vdc after rectification and smoothing. If it's then regulated it can give only ~+-12Vdc at maximum.
From the conflicting information that Zero is posting, I have no idea what he is offering. Does he know?

Whoops, you are correct. I misread the VCT. Even after I wrote it.
Sorry. If it were a few volts higher, I would have gone after it. Looking for a 28-0-28 or 56VCT.

I've used two Talema toroidals 25-0-25V, 160 VA each with the chipamp.com dual mono lm3886tf kit, with very good sound. My loudspeakers are 8 ohm.
I advise you to use encapsulated toroidal to avoid noise.
