At first it might sound strange that I like this song and video better now (just "re-discovered" it) than I did back when. Back then it was "just" a child of its time. It also makes me feel nostalgic and uneasy. I'm not the nostalgic kind. Nostalgia is the consequence of having nothing left to look forward to; of having no future. And this video reminds me of a time when there still was a future. I miss it.

Made around the time we left the modernism and entered the postmodernism, it perfectly captures the optimism of the modernism and its blind faith in the future: things would only get better. Nothing was made to last. There was no need for it. Anything that was 5 yrs old was ancient. And it looked ancient. Fashion changed so fast you could make clothes out of paper and they would still be out of fashion before you could wear them out. Almost, anyway. People actually looked at "throwaway society" as something positive!

For a better living through chemicals.
