TPA3255 - all about DIY, Discussion, Design etc

I am using 4 OP Amps in my double DAK4497 : OPA1612 + OPA1656 and OPA1656 in my TPA3251 Amp. The whole mix is excellent as well )

Mon dieu, you are fighting at the frontiers of high-end!
Before I used the OPA2209 the OPA1612 was my fav. The detail output of the 1612 is extreme, no tube, transformer or transistor can do that. Only the highs are a bit too much. The 2209 is more natural also very detailed. I use the TPA3255 for Alpair 10.3 in small BR enclosure so I have to use the OPA2227 as buffer cos its tooo much detail.

Before Alpair I had Triangle (superb French speakers) and 2 way French DIY design with Seas & Air Motion.

Salut

I bought a new 3e audio tpa3255 rev b board, I have to decide if supply at 36v or at 48v, I don't wanna get it warm. My speakers is an indiana line tesi 661 and I listen at low volume.

As mentioned, go with the 36V. I have both 3e SMPS 36V & 48V and the amp sounds fine with the 36V. The 48V causes the coils to get really uncomfortably warm and the IC heat sink gets to be 52C

Cheers, Pete

To power at 36V a meanwell LRS-150 can be enough or it is better to go to LRS-200?

Go with LRS-200 - thats a good one. But change the output caps to Nichicon KZ (neutral), Nichicon VZ (warm & tubelike), ELNA Silmic II (more body, bass & warmth and darker in the upper mids to lower highs). If you use 1uF ELNA only the highs and lower highs get warmer, if you use 10uF ELNA the mids and lower mids will also get warmer.

My fav cap is: Large KZ with ELNA Silmic II 1uF-10uF or ELNA BiPolar 1uf-10uF combination. The small value ELNA makes the highs and mids more forgiving (I listen often to 80's CDs). The BiPolar ELNA is more open than Silmic II but still good body & bass. Silmic II diminish the air/space a bit.

Nichicon KZ is the king. There is no other cap with such transparency and real deep & articulate bass. Nichicon FG is also good with deep bass but lacks the refinement of the KZ in the mids. Some say FG has a tad too much treble power. KZ, VZ, FG, FW & ELNA is even better than many MKPs out there.

Panasonic FM/FC has fuzzy chaotic mids & soundstage and bloated bass and smeared highs - the wrong cap for the TPA3255 IMHO.

Rubycon ZL/ZA series has ultra low ESR but sounds totally terrible.

Good to hear, I've just ordered the 3e tpa3255 480w board and the tpa3255 2x260w board, and the 3e dsp board.

I want to power them with the Connex 600w / 38V SMPS I have lying around.

3e said it would be okay, I was worrying about the voltage.

Your post makes me worry less :)

Again heresy)))) if you use feedback, then the capacitors will not have any effect

I have good news!

My 3e Audio EAUMT -0260-2-B has arrived!
I am very much looking forward to testing it, listening to it, comparing it with my reference AB amplifier and my other Class D amplifiers.

Greetings
