So I wanted to build a pair of tpa 3116 monoblocks. I bought a couple of 24v switching power supplies and two Audiobah cards. Got it all together ( just used one of the channels on each, no PBTL) got a shorting sound out of the left channel. I thougt it was somethin with the card, got rid of the connector on the card and hardwired it - same sound. Thougt the card was corrupt and shelfed the project for a while. Then I bought a couple of Shure hifi tpa 3116 mono 1 x 100w, and tried again. Same shorting sound, still left channel. Couldn´t believe it. Changed the rca connector, same thing. Changed the signal cable, same thing. At this moment I´m at my wits end. What can it possible be? The right channel has been working fine all the time, both with Audiobah and now with Shure hifi. What should I look for? Oh, and all the external cables (signal, speaker etc. are fine, they work with other stuff.
Yeah shorting sound is very vague. Is the noise coming from the amp board, the PSU or the speakers. TPA3116 have a lot of protection built in so won't sent nastiesmto your speakers incase of a fault.
Yes, the left signal works in other amps. Shorting sound is the sound you get when you connect the ground to the signal, not really a sqeeking, more a loud buzz. Overvoltage? Hmm... the strange thing is of course that both things has occured in the same amp with two diferent cards.
Still not sure what you mean by shorting sound, but I don't think anybody knows, from what you tell it isn't a protection, but I am affraid you don't tell me enough to identify problem.
A buzz in left channel amps, not in right channel amps when they are connected as left channel amps? Original left channel amps work normal on right channel ? If you have just one channel connected is there buzz too ? AC1308/audiobah standoffs need to be nylon, but stereo Sure3116 has isolated pcbholes, monoversion likely too. AC1308/audiobah I haven't heard of a defective board without cause (standoffs), with Sure it occurs more often.
But seems like source problem for you.

you have one speaker, one amp and one psu working properly.
you can check easily which is the bad link in the chain by changing (only) one device after the other from the not working side into the working system.
don't forget to check the cables and connectors, too.
