TP92-case Toshiba = manufacturer code CS???

I have all kinds of small signal parts that were originally sources by Toshiba. All of them have a CS in front of the part number, and the marking looks slightly diffent from what I know from Toshiba parts in other cases.

So the marking is:
CSA
970

CSC
2240
GR

CSA
1015
GR

CSC
1815
GR

Are these genuine Toshiba parts? What does CS stand for?

Hi,

I have some genuine Toshiba parts like these which were sent to me direct by Toshiba (not through any distributor) and they are marked differently from yours. However, I have had them for probably ten years or so.

No doubt you have realised that the correct Toshiba part numbers have a '2' in place of your 'C' i.e. 2SA970, rather than yours marked as CSA970 etc.

All of the devices I have here are simply marked for example "C2240 BL* 2C.

* This is the hFE (gain group) classification, of course.

With some similar devices of a different gain group, the last two letters are also different for example "C2240 GR OA" but I don't think that these last two letters are indicative of any parameters.
I think (I'm not absolutely certain) that these two last letters relate to a 'batch', in manufacture, or perhaps a date.

Unless they have changed over the years (possibly unlikely?) I would be concerned over how genuine yours are.

I hope this helps, even though it may not be very good news.🙂

Regards,

Maybe the transistors are manufactured by CDIL? They seem
to label many of their transistors that way, if I understand their
product lists correctly. Interestingly, as was mentioned in
another thread the other day, I have a bag of transistors
branded CDIL, but using a different type of naming, not
appearing in their product list (real or fakes?).

See www.cdil.com

Thanks Christer, this seems to be the answer. Cdil apparently completely replace the 2S with CS in their part numbers. Has anybody seen a data sheet by Cdil to know whether they match up with the original specs?

From power transistors, I know that some parts carrying even exactly the same part number will according to the second source manufacturer's data sheet only match voltage and current rating of the original devices, with gain, f_T and capacitances being much worse.
