Hi all, I'm hoping someone here will be able to help me. I'm sorry if I post this in the wrong section...
I recently got a Sonly Walkman NWZ-B183 mp3 player- the kind that has a built in usb connection- to play my music through my car (Renault Captur) which has a USB plug in into the media console.
I have loaded the music onto the walkman and all the songs are mp3 format. They all play fine through the headphones on the player, however when I plud it into my car, only about 3 or 4 songs from each album play. The rest show up an error message on the car's console that says 'Not supported codec (file format).
Can anyone suggest to me something I can do to get all my music to play?! at my wit's end.
Thanks in advance,
Samantha

Hmmm... could be a tough one to crack. If at all possible I would suggest trying the Sony in another car that is USB equiped. You could also try copying the tracks onto a normal USB memory stick and trying that. Car systems can be a bit temperamental in the way they recognise folders and subfolders etc from USB media but that wouldn't explain the codec error.
Its worth looking at the Sony on your PC and making sure all the files/folders/file types all look OK to.
So a bit of a process of elimination and seeing what works/doesn't work to begin with.
And welcome to diyAudio 🙂

Okay since posting this, I have found out that when I plug a regular flash drive into the usb port in the car (not an mp3 player just a usb pen things) that is loaded with the same music files, it plays fine. What's that about?? That means it must be something to do with the sony walkman, right?
It does seem that way yes. When you plug the Walkman in, does it then power up automatically (as if you had turned it on). If it does power up then what happens if you then turn it off ? Are the files then accessible ?
These kind of issues can be a bit weird, neither the car nor the player will be "faulty" as such, more some incompatibility with the way they talk to each other.
Have you been able to try the Sony in another car to see if it behaves as you expect ?
