You measured the +15 volt rail earlier (point D !) and it was OK so no point waiting for the 78L15.
Just fit the 79L15 and measure and see if the -15 volts appears.

Played with the desolder wire, got the hang of that. Easy stuff. Resoldered the diodes and replaced the one I cut for testing using the new solder. Wow, that stuff made things a lot easier!
Replaced the power reg.
Did the tests. All seemed fine!
Plugged it all in and...
Music!!! Yup. It works!

I have a bit of a confession though, I used to have this turntable connected through a Yamaha amp and out to TDL speakers (RTL-3's followed by Studio 10's) with Kef Q95C front and rear and Mission 771's bringing up the rear.
However, it was decided that this setup was a bit messy so we sold it and bought (hangs head in shame) a Bose Lifestyle 35 system.
Now, this is excellent for watching TV and DVD's etc and if you want to listen to an MP3 it's fine. But I now note that pushing the turntable source through the AUX on the Bose leaves a lot to be desired.
Very tinny, no mid range to speak of and a bit quiet.
I've played with the limited settings on the Bose, upping the AUX input source by 6db (max) and have tried playing with the Bass settings but it's not great. I've also knocked it down to 2 speakers from the usual 5.
So, with this Pre-amp, can I make some mods that will increase the mid and low end and maybe give it a bit more oomph?
I await your answers with baited breath!
Oh, by the way. I listen to everything, from Mozart to Pink Floyd to AC/DC to Hayseed Dixie to Metallica to Sepultura.

Just to be sure I understand... you are using this preamp to feed the Bose ? as it reads as though you are feeding the TT direct to the Bose.

The preamp applies what is know as RIAA correction to the TT cartridge output. This is a very definite and defined correction to the response (all in aid of improving the signal to noise ratio) and should not be altered, or in fact need to be altered.
Replacing opamps would result in only minor (but in a revealing system very worthwhile) improvements but not the change you are after...
It would be possible to increase the gain of the preamp probably by changing no more than a couple of resistors but we would need to see the circuit to determine what to do.

Didn't discard them. Made a choice on how I wanted my living room to look. Certainly gave us a considerable amount of space back!
And the little one can't pull the studio 10's over on himself now!

Once I got this all fixed I noticed a lop sided effect where there was not accurate stereo output. Now it has taken me this long to get to the point where I have eliminated what I can.
It's not the pre-amp this time.
It must be the turntable, I hooked it up via a different pre-amp and it is the same.
It appears that it's gone a bit mono on one channel (left) and I get both out puts from there!
It's not easy to describe.
The turntable is a Project Debut II.
Does this sound like an easy fix? What components are in the turntable? Thought it was simply the cartridge to some connectors basically!
I haven't opened anything up on the turntable as yet. Thought I'd get some opinions first.

No ! Only after skimming through it all again did it come back to me.
99% of turntables are just a cartridge and the leads. All the electronics for audio are in the amp.
I have never owned a separate turntable so can't quote you any colour codes etc for wires but that is something you need to check. Make sure the polarities (I mean phase, not left and right) are correct.
And it could be a faulty cartridge too of course.
the stereo cart has 4PINs.
Often one of these PINs connects to the deck's grounding wire/screen/s.
Could the grounding wire and/or the shorting link be sending a corrupted signal to the two channels of amplification?
