I am a total newbie to this so bear with me. I am into anything high tech and was wanting to buy a projector, but stumbled across this build your own craze. So of course that's what I want to do.
I have looked through the forums here and I think I'm going to go with the OHP way. Not crazy about how it will look, but I already have a 61" Digital TV, I just want the projector for movie parties and basically just to show off, so I don't have to leave it out all the time just when I am going to use it.
My question is will all I need be the OHP and the LCD screen? Also do I need to look for anything different since I will be using it for tv, dvd, ps2 and those things instead of for my computer. So really the only input I need is s-video.
Am I thinking along the right lines?
Thanks in advance for your time and help.

If the panel you buy has a video in jack, your golden. But, if it only has a computer video in connector, you will need to buy a vga to rca converter box. Look for the forum called 3dog theater now open. The one he uses also has a line doubler and tv tuner. they run about 80 bucks. I have never gone the lcd panel and ohp route (i think its to easy, and looks bad [its not really diy either]), but the majority of people go with the nview viewframe spectra c. If you do a search for viewframe on ebay, there are some spectra c's there now. As for an oph, a freind of mine just won a bid for two 3m projectors for 39 bucks (One usualy goes for much more than that though).
The Spectra C isn't the only one that will work. The main thing you want to make sure of is:
Color (millions of colors is best)
Active Matrix (The alternative is Passive Matrix, and passive LCD's aren't fast enough to keep up with the motion of movies)
Higher-resolution the better -- 640x480 is most common, but if you can find better, that would be great. I watched a DVD last night on a 640x480 though, and it was fantastic.
Inputs... NTSC is good (American video, Euro is PAL), computer inputs are good, and S-Video input is a definate bonus.
That's mainly what you want. I don't know anything about OHP's, so I can't tell you what kind of projector to buy. Hope that helps!

ohp
I hve nothing for or against other ohp's but i bought a Dukane 4003 and i find it nice, handy, sturdy, compact if you need to move it around a lot, 2 bulbs (always a spare one by the flick of a slide), good cooling (the panel on top stays cool as can be) and was not that expensive on eBay.
But as you can see form other contributions like YWH, the cheapest Apollo can be rebuilt in a power machine when the lightbulbs are changed!
