Toshiba power supply

I've been building turntables for a couple of years and up till now they've been belt drive. I've now built a direct drive unit using a Toshiba turntable for the components. Because I like minimalist wooden plinths, I decided to make a separate power supply enclosure housing all the switches and pot speed / pitch adjusters. The wiring is identical to the original TT except for a 36" cable from the power supply to the turntable. I found when I turned it on that the motor rotates but acts in a "step" fashion. It rotates (say) 10 degrees stops, then rotates again. Could it be voltage drop with the long cable? I've checked all connections and before I unhook anything, thought I should ask the question.

Thanks for your reply Chris. I actually just solved the riddle. I hadn't put the platter on the spindle when I was testing it. Once I did - bingo...all's good. The trimmer pots and speed control switches work a treat. The flywheel effect moves the motor to the next segment.
