I'll agree it is expensive, though refurbs can be had for about $360.
Two points though, the price includes what appears to be a fairly useable DVD player, and the lcd is poly-silicon not amorphous silicon. My understanding is that poly passes more light and might allow the use of a lower wattage light engine. For instance, my older Sharp projector does 500 ANSI lumens with a 150W lamp.
