This question may have been asked before, is there any discernible difference sound wise between these 2 parts for the same Idss range when used as a gain stage, or buffer say in a line preamp?
The 2SK 170 is probably an earlier version made by Toshiba and from looking at data sheets for each device, the only real difference is the power rating and packaging.
Maybe Mr Pass has some thoughts on this, having probably used both in may of his designs.
I am asking this now based on the very kind gesture of Nelson in making the Nu Tube pre amp PCB available with matched 2SK370 JFet's.
Putting the question another way, would there be any advantage in using matched genuine Toshiba 2SK170 J fet's in the Nu Tube design done by Nelson, provided one had them in stock.

The 370 is 200 mw and the 170 is a 400 millwatt dissipation,
Otherwise they seem to be the same die inside.
So no advantage unless your running them hot.
With the 170 hard to find there maybe some 370 around,
so you can use the 170s if you have them
Betteryet some 2sk147/369 if you had some
