Toroidal transformers, I need help figuring out what to look for?

Hi, I’m building a power supply for an audio amplifier and I need help with figuring out which manufacturers, and the options to pick?
I want to use quality parts so I’m looking for what you guys would pick if you were building an amplifier for your self. I’m learning as I go and have a couple books, but I haven’t come across how to pick out a good transformer?
It would be for a 350 watt stereo amplifier so it would be able to drive any speakers I might use in the future.

Sounds like you have an amp in mind, so should have some transformer specs.
I tend to do things the other way around. I will see what transformer I can find, in an old or broken amp. Then look at available amp boards that like it.

While a 20yo amp might be considered vintage, with caps failing, leading to scrap values, the transformer is still new. They don't really age. They are also expensive. They can easily cost more than the rest of the electronics. So scavenging can be a good way forward. You might also find nice heatsinks this way. Switchgear/binding posts/chassis. Give your eBay a search in the spares/repairs, and use online service manuals to get an idea what is in there.

350 is a big number. PA amp perhaps. No nice volume pots in one of those, but some big transformers, and old stuff is cheap.

350 watt total? for 2 channels or 175 watt a side?

Typically 2x the VA for class AB or slightly more

350 x 2 = 700 VA and 800 VA or 800 Watts being extremely common off the shelf.

+/_ 63 volt rails is more than daring for a first project. Higher power levels be +/_ 82 volts

Wouldnt go for more than +/_ 63 volts rather ambitious for a first project. Soft Start Relay and DC protection on the amp outputs would be mandatory.

45 0 45 transformer 800 VA be in the +/_ 63 volt range rectified. Good luck with that, please post when finished. Or in process.

I thought I would be lucky if someone replied in 24 hours, thank you for the help.
After reading your responses I think it would be better to layout in a post what I want to achieve so it would be easier to recommend the best parts for what I want to achieve. I’ll post in the amplifier section what I’m trying to do and why.
Sorry about the screw up.
