toroid transformer mounting question

Hi -

I have a general question about mounting two identical toroidal power transformers directly side by side. Should I use one of the steel mounting plates to separate them and reduce interference, or would just one of the rubber washers be sufficient?

You can just mount toroidal transformers on top of each other if they are used for a power supply. Crosstalk is not an issue then. A rubber disk/washer takes care of non-flatness.

In case of output transformers for audio crosstalk is a serious issue, e.g for stereo or multi-channel audio. Still you can mount two or more toroidal transformers on top of each other but make sure to have an ALUMINUM disk between them. Often you have to turn one of the transformers to minimize crosstalk via the leads and the optimum is close to where the leads of the transformers are perpendicular to each other. In this way you can get -80dB crosstalk at lower to medium audio frequencies and -70dB at 10kHz.
