Tool Box talk For safety measures

hello Everyone,

I don't how can i bring more safety the forefront so that my crew should feel more safe but the thing is that i don't know too much about it.

I grew up on a farm and what is safety we were never preached about it. and the basics were that never get hit while you work. and for someone with such great intellect and good sense of work what can go wrong it always work. in my whole life i never had some serious accident after working for so many years in the machinery.

but i am now realizing while working with many new workers who never grew up in the circumstances just like me can't work with the senses that i have so this is my responsibility now to safe their work. i need some good safety measures.

Now i need to pass my knowledge to them before some major accident occur to them.

How do I do that? I was thinking the morning toolbox talk might be a good idea, but I really don't know what to say.

Any pointers from those who have done it?

Your country will have health and safety legislation,

You must comply with it...

The PUWER regulations deal with some parts of what you are talking about and are UK legislation. Reading them will give you some ideas.

http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg291.pdf

Look for pinch points on machinery..

Some of the dangers are:
Entrapment..Entanglement..crush...shear..stabbing..puncture..injection..friction and abrasion...impact...slip trip and fall..electrocution..
drawing in..and chemical dangers.
PPE is a last line of defence there should be control measures in place to protect the workers..only if these fail should the PPE limit or reduce injury..
You must study your countries legislation and follow it.
No person should be engaged in any work without instruction and training..this should be consistent and the same not just by word of mouth..everyone should use a recognised operational procedure known in the UK as a standard operation that has been scrutinised by the person responsible in the company.
(A standard Op is a recognised way of operation of a machine or doing a task and should include how to get someone out of equipment in an emergency while not putting themselves at risk)

Your safety is up to you I take no responsibility,

You have to know the legislation and be telling them the correct information.

Start tool box talks with a specific subject..eg

Today we are going to talk about slips trips and falls...ask them to list the reasons for these happening and what can be done to prevent them..then tell them the dangers and list don't do this...then do this..ask them in turn to identify a danger.

keep doing different subjects... then four weeks after a talk ask them to list the dangers about a subject!

Keep doing different subjects each week..
Even down to the best way to put up a ladder and bring it down. Then ask them to demonstrate it..then what are the dangers even things like aluminium ladders conduct electricity watch for over head lines of power.
Keep a list of the workers and get them to sign for each subject they have been told or demonstrated. The reason is everyone should have done the same training<<if they don't that's how accidents happen because you thought they could do something but they had never been trained.

Make sure you document the talk so you know what you have talked about so far.

Always finish with
Be proactive! if you see something dangerous either do something about it or report it. If you think someone is working unsafe tell them.

Another good talk is about previous accidents and why they happened...then what to do to stop it happening!
In the end there are so many ways of doing this...but is up to you!
No further comment.
