Scheduled for resolution Too much dead space in posts

how much dead space there really is.
So: 21 to 8? New presentation is 2.6 times bigger than before?

That is what my sore scroll finger says. Well-known lists of sections, or sections with extravagant sticky-posts, take 2 to 3 times as many PgDns or scroll-flicks to get where I am going. From top to Lounge use to be 3 PgDns, now it is at least 7.

Put it this way - the old front page was designed by me. The new front page was not designed by me 😉

However, I'm in charge and we'll get it headed towards where I would like to see it, over the next 1-2 months. As a priority. I don't regret migrating before I was happy with it, as we really needed to migrate ASAP and my perfectionist streak might have meant we didn't migrate (with aesthetics the way I'd like) for many months yet, which put us all in danger of a catastrophic event due to the state of the old software stack.

Everyone's feedback is well noted, aligned with my own thoughts on how things should look, and "We'll get there".

I posted some pictures in the lounge forum how a compacter design of current forum looks like after mangling it through a web browser extension called Stylus, see my two posts:

And direct links to the pictures attached in those two posts:

(I actually wanted a compacter look for the forum list but couldn't figure out that)

ps. I wanted to attach above links as inline pictures or thumbnails, but that's not possible it seems as there's no way to link to internal pictures posted elsewhere on this forum, the "insert image" only asks for pictures stored on my computer and "insert link" doesn't create inline pics nor thumbnails, is this a missing feature which we had on the old forum?

Your screenshots are in line with where we will be heading. I would have a bit more emphasis on ensuring thread titles have more dominance in terms of visual hierarchy, allowing them to be larger, while other less important things can be smaller or removed entirely (like OP avatars).

For visual folks the avatars are great - can recognize who’s posting much faster that way. I also hope this need to condense is minor as negative space helps direct attention to what’s important far more effectively than stylizing fonts in a wall of text.

On a desktop PC with a monitor running ,1920 x 1,080, the site appears as 15" wide with a little over 2" of dead white space on both sides. This is about 23% of completely wasted space with nothing on it. The site should be setup to use 100% of the monitors width. If the user wants it to use less, they can make that adjustment on their computer.

Definitely not 100% width... Optimum is maybe maximum 100 chars per line. The Line Length Misconception
