good work.
Hi Tony,
Great results. I'm specifically happy to see that you are using the fresnel from diy labs which I also purchased. From your pictures it appears that you are using the fresnels combined behind the lcd? I also didn't see how you attach the projection lens.
Would you be able to provide us with more details regarding distances and focal's of lenses.
Cheers,
Exipnos

hi exipnos and japlasma,
there is not too much to the box, and it is kind of a work in
progress just to see what this panel can do. when i get done
tweeking etc, i will build a new case for it.
the hardwood chest is a toy chest that sells at target. i paid
$39 for mine on sale. the light box is mounted on four #6
machine screws so i can change the distance to fresnel from
6.5-8". with alans fresnel they need to used split. the first one
is placed before the lcd, on the top aluminum angle. this is
approx 1.5" from the lcd. the other fresnel gets placed on top
of the lid, tilted if need be for keystone etc. the lower l angle is there if i need
to put in a barrier, two pieces of ohp tempered stage glass
are an exact fit, but i don't think i will need those or want
to use them if i can avoid it. there are two extra 12v fans that
blow up against the top/underside of the lid to circulate the
air around the backside of the lcd.
right now it is just the ushio bulb and condenser. i have a 4" ss soup
ladel i'm going to throw in there for fun 🙂 color is a little better.
last night i changed the gamma and color temp settings, helped
a bit.
does anyone know of any good macintosh tools that will allow
changing the individual color channels for the output to a dvi
monitor? one that will function with apples dvd player software?
i'll be on holiday soon for two weeks so i won't get much chance to play
with it for awhile.
all the best, tony

very informative project. Have you got a side-on photo of the assembled item? I want to see how you get light from the LCD panel, pointing upwards, to the screen. Also, how are you handling keystone effects?

Wow...more pictures of this project would be great. I'm in on a group buy for these SGI panels and I can't wait to get my hands on one. And I'd really like to see the whole coffee table implementation finished. Great job!
So would I. What I've seen of it so far is so ifferent from anything on the Lumenlab. I like the idea of the "coffee table" design, but quite frankly with the LCD on the top I can't figure where it is projecting............on the ceiling ? Strange that Tony hasn't resumed his postings for his vacation must surely be over by now. Maybe the projector is so good that he can't tear himself away from it ! 😉
