Tonigen 5" drivers

Tonigen used to make a very good, (and expensive), ribbon tweeter, but that disappeared from dealers about 8 years ago. I suspect the company closed down.

If these other drivers are to the same quality, they should be pretty good, but I can't say for certain as I only ever heard the tweeter. Sorry, that's all I know.

Are these speakers new, or from an existing system? If an existing system, then see if you can give them a listen. If new, then just make a temporary open baffle, (you can even use cardboard!), and listen to them in that. As this will not be optimised, you may not get much bottom end,but as long as there is no distortion, and the VC or spider/surround is not rubbing, they should be ok.

Don't worry about having no specs, if you get the drivers then we can talk you through measuring all the needed parameters, you only need an amp, a multimeter, a PC, (for tone generation), and a low ohmage power resistor. Oh, and a few bits of wood to make a test box to measure Vas. 😉

Is it easy to measure specs of driver?

Is this all that's needed? I am on the verge of picking up one Philips India full-range 8" driver and probably another similar El Cheapo 12" woofer, for experimenting with open baffles. Don't have any ideas of driver specs. Can you guys tell me, in due course, how to measure the basic specs to let me build sealed/ported enclosures? I have amp, multimeter, tone generator CD, and can buy high-power low-ohmage cheapo sand-cast resistor. Box is no problem either. If this is enough, it would be great.
