hello!
(first post here 😀)
I was curious as to how one would determine the correct placement of a tonearm in relation to that of platter? is there a formula, or some procedure for correct placement? (im currently building my first turntable, and scratching my head over this one)
if you could give me some tips, or point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated. thanks.

it depends on the geometry of the tonearm...
if you use a particular tonearm, then get its geometry information. An example might be "309mm effective length, headshell offset 24° knowing that and the alignment the manufacturer intended for that tone arm, it could all be calculated, or easily drawn.
Or look up the information on the vinyl engine website (may have to join ).

Hi garethjones,
I too need this. How did you solve the problem of tonearm placement ?

Bins.

let me know what arms you have. Tonearm positioning is a function of arm length, headshell offset angle, and the "style" of alignment used.

Hi Nanook,
I am having a Lenco L-75 tonearm as well as a Project standard tonearm.

which Project arm (from what table?_
about 10-15 models (depending on turntable it came from)...so what's "standard? I'll have to do a little digging on the L75 arm

Hi Nanook,
I think the arm is Pro-Ject 8.6. What is your idea on DUAL tonearms ? Are they better than Project 8.6 ?
