Tone controls are necessary in audio systems

When turned fully anticlockwise till a switch-off click is heard, the balance control is in the bypass condition.

I don't have access to the circuit diagram to ascertain exactly how that function is executed.

EDIT: Oh! I get what you were meaning now! Good one! 🙂

I like my system, it's well balanced at least in my mind. I use tone and loudness. Not to make up for the system or room but to make up the differences in the recording and mastering sensibilities over the years. Also for plain gratuitous rock n roll.

Advent Speaker Repair Replace Foam Edge Metal Frame Woofer - YouTube

Show me the specs with original envelopes,( foam wings ) please. (replacements will not be the same).
I don't think they have an F3 less than ............... 50 hz?

Actually, my Maestro's don't have the original 10" (by Jensen) woofers, they rotted out years ago.
They were replaced, and upgraded with a pair of 10" subwoofers with non-rotting suspensions and better power handling specs.
An additional brace was added inside the cabinet just above the woofer opening to increase stiffness of the front baffle.

In testing, the new woofers perform like the originals, but the F3 is now around 40Hz, and still put out a healthy 33Hz when needed.

They look nice! I imagine you knew that a different speaker has different TS (many more than just a change of the foam surround)
Was a new xover calculated and installed ?

The original xover was kept, because the response was virtually the same, just more extention of a "bottom end" than the original woofers.
Plus, I added a cycolac horn tweeter on the rear panel directly behind the front tweeter with it's own xover to bounce some highs/treble off the wall behind the speaker.
And a 3 position switch added for "original response---rear tweeter on---subdued midrange".
I loved the original sound of these speakers, but with these changes, I love them even more.
And that's all that counts.

The rear tweeters, adding depth, make vocals appear so realistic, I can actually perceive the singer's position seem like its behind the rear wall, making the room itself seem larger.
To coin a phrase, the sound is "airy" and uncontained.

The 'Adaptive Autobias' of PrimaLuna's new EV0 300 tube integrated amplifier allows the owner to use any of the following output valves:

6L6G; 6L6GC; 7581A; EL34; EL37; 6550; KT66; KT77; KT88; KT90; KT120; KT150

Changing tubes to tweak your sound must be infinitely preferable to tone controls, graphic equalisers or experimenting with cables! :mischiev:

I use ultracurve, a 31 band digital dsp, to correct flat in listening position. Its more versatile this way. I have 50+ amplifiers, 20+ preaplifiers and 10+ speakers to swap.
Every time i make small change, I adjust flat in listening position.
You would not believe tiniest differences in sound that can be heard.
Every amplifier has its own sound. Every preamp even more. There is no such thing as transparent preamplifier. If you know one, please, let me have it.
Not to mention speakers, even if flat on axis, they all sound complelety diffrently in the room. Each spraying the room with different of axis response. Each having different phase response.
So many options, so little time!
Stay safe.
