I have a Sota Moonbeam turntable that has a crack in the tone are. Unfortunately it is a model that is old and does not match the current model. It also does not have a removable head shell.
I am wanting a replacement/upgrade and was looking any suggestions any might have as well as any pitfalls I may want to avoid.

What cartridge will you use with it?
Check the spindle to horizontal pivot distance, to see is the existing
plinth mounting hole will be compatible with your choice of arm.
Your present arm may be a Rega OEM S202, and if so another Rega arm
should fit ok.
A removable head shell is a convenience, but is also a detriment to performance.

The cartridge I have on it now is a Grado Gold. It is OK, but not realy cery detailed. The effective length is 237mm with a 15mm overhang. The tone arm that is on it is the Sota S100 tone arm (the turn table is a Moonbeam Series 2).
The crack is where the weight is at the rear of the tone arm. So I really do not know if the lack of detail is due to the crack or is a characteristic of the cartridge itself, the whole system or setup. I want to upgrade things first before reevaluating what other improvements I might try.
Of course I could do the ultimate upgrade and get a new turntable, but I am not ready to give up on this one yet. That would take the fun out of it.

I'd give the Grado a chance in the new arm, you can always replace it later on.
Since you are a woodworker, maybe you can deal with an arm that will require a different
diameter or placement of its mounting hole.
Can you post some close photos of the crack in the arm?
