Yes, and the type of flooring and the alternative to spikes.
My experience is that they are nearly always better than no alternative.
Alternatives are things like marbles seated in a recess, large
pointed feet, blutacking to hard floors, blutacking to a heavy
slab and isolation platforms for the whole speaker.
Effects are very dependent on floor construction in my opinion.
