Ok so as many of you know I have a proxima 9210 and its a really nice projector but personally If I can get a Image from a lcd monitor and a Modified OHP I would be as happy with that, I love this projector dont get me wrong But as soon as this Bulb is burned out thats going to be a big expence to sink into it. So basically Im wanting to get others views on making the switch, and the one thing I never have understood, is how if you say have a set distance from the screen do you situate your OHP, since they dont have zooms, or is there a way to make a zoom on a modified OHP? thanks for any further input.

I bought it for 720.00 and I have seen them go Up to 1000.00+ with a " great looking ad and pictures" its all about advertising. so thats all I can go on , I should be able to get the 720.00 back outa it easy. thanks for any further thoughts.

Amen to that! 🙂
I'm like an ebay verteran! I can sell anthing on there for more!

So lets say if you can pull in $900 for that thing, you can easily build a setup with an xga panel. If your good at building "stuff" I would go the route of the custom made case as this seems to yeld nicer results.
But the one question is how does one zoom with a OHP, right now i have " theater" drapes that go down the sides top and bottom of the letter boxed widscreen image but have to zoom out to use video thats standard format, so would I be able to do this or would this involv moving the projector etc?
The projection lens you choose has to support zooming...ebay commonly has them....i've got a motorized NEC set that i'll be putting into my setup when i have the time/find my full time job (graduating with an MBA in a month) untill then i'm happy with my VGA only projector on the wall
hey thanks for replying, now is that just a different lens for a OHP or is this a totally different lens to make a custom enclosure, can you perhaps point me to a site for examples? thanks again

While i dont know for sure what i'm talking about, if you place this lens where the focal point of the fresnel...aka where the projection lens should go, this would work just fine....but i'm not 100% sure

I don't know for sure either...but that is on SLICK looking lens assembly aint it?

Yep....i think it has some real potential, but untill i build myself a DIY projector with a lcd panel i wont know.
ebay lens
Yeah great lens asembly but it no good for anything bigger than a 5" lcd, its too small and u would loose too much light, a quick hint on lenses that are automatic, hey u guys remember the old big vhs cam corders? the giant things that came out in the 80's? well those lenses are basically the same except it for recording, they also work as a projector lens with electric zoom. Shame mines in aust and im in spain ill have to wait till i go back to get it

I think I understand ace3000_1's point. The lens is too small diameter wise to accept the big image we want to throw at it...it's made to be mounted in a little box with a super duper tiny LCD very close to it. Where as most of us have big honkin LCD panels that require the lens to be much further away from the LCD (outside of it's range of focus) in order to "see" the whole image we wish it to project.
hehe...another reason I like the small panels, I really don't want to go to a bigger panel than the 12 inch that I'm using..I just want to get a better resollution and a faster responce LCD...oh yeah...and I want it to be LVDS instead of TTL. I just got a laptop given to me with a 10.4 inch 800x600 LCD with LVDS input..now all I gotta do is find the spec sheet for it...Hitachi is a pain to find specs for...allmost allways gotta call the factory for their older stuff 🙁

On the opposite side of the coin..I have a lens that is 9 inchs across by 3.5 inchs thick. It can "see" the whole surface of my LCD from only 8 inchs away..but there is a downside. At 8 inchs from my LCD it projects an image that is nearly 6 feet diagonal.. with a throw distance of only like 5 or 6 feet. I have no idea how big the image would be at say 12 feet from projector to screen...I'm betting it would be FREAKIN HUGE!
btw at 6 feet diagonal it was an AWESOME image, extremely bright and very crisp.
zardoz...it's all fun till someone looses an eye...then it's a sport

I think it will be large enough. The first lens is almost 2 inches in diameter (not that thats the important part. But isnt the goal to line up the focal point of this projection assembly with the focal point of the fresnel thats under the lcd panel.
Yes I think you are right, allthough I think you would need one of those funky "non standard" fresnels that Lifter and cruser are investigating right now.

somthing to remember
somthing to remember is the more lenses u use the more light u loose and im talking about 1/5th per lens depending on size and power ect, now zardoz the reason your lens is the way it is cos it has too much power and its meant for a close range thats why it is used in the enlarger cos im sure they wouldnt want an enlarger to be 12ft long or high lol, now ith the small lenses u loose a hell of alot of light, the bigger the lens the more light it can gather therfore throw out, if u use a 12inch lcd the lens wouldnt get all of the lcd anyway unless u wer to use a lens to shrink to image and then thats more space as in a bigger box and u would loose so muich light. Why do u think the projectors u buy use such a high output light to get just an 800lumen image? im using just a 150w mh bulb and ive got about 900lm on my projector and that is just with a page mag behing the lcd and a 90mm mag lens and the image is perfect, try to get a lens that is no more than 4times in power and at that size and u cant loose.
