I built the TLb 2 years ago and I have still not heard a better speaker, no matter what the price!
As I have posted about this speaker over the years, has anyone else built it?
I have modded it by trying a Vifa X25, but the original is better, more emotion and better decay, the X25 was good, but just sounded flat.

Hi Dave, any word from Ed?
I am trying to see if anyone else has built the TLb because I have bought a new house, photos on another post, and I may need some more output from the TLb's.
I was thinking of using 4 P13's per speaker by adding another one below each existing Woofer and keep the rest the same.
Any thoughts?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but would that make the column approximately 14" sq instead of a 7" sq for both configurations?
I like the idea of one on each face.

10" on the side.
7 x 7 = 49
49*2 ~ 100
sqrt(100) =10

Mark,
Ive been toying with building a pair after reading the construction article on T-Line for quite awhile. Do you find the bass response adequate for near field listening?
IMO, the speaker was extensively thought out and modifying it might not yield an equivelent quality speaker.
What you might do is try a sub. I was a mini-monitor/sub freak for 15 years (ADS, Braun, B&W, etc) and noticed a HUGE gain in output and transient response between using the speakers full range and then unburdening them of the LFs with a sub. You might find that a TL sub might integrate well and allow your TLb to gain some dbs. Try using someones HT sub and see if you gain enough extra output to fill the room.

amt, I have a sub, a Phoenix Dipole using 2 12" Peerless drivers. They intergrate very well.
The TLb has very good, fast bass to about 80hz so they intergrate very well with the dipole and will play any type of music, including Rock and Techno.

IMO, the biggest benefit of active woofers.

speakers to use
Just spotted some cheap Audax 6.5" woofers on sale at PE. They have the same Fs as the Vifa used in the TLb but have a Qts of .88 instead of .33. Think these could be used? They have a very smooth roll-off, are 12 ohm, and are only $5.95 ea. Might be time to build a pair.

Based on the alphaTL model (tuned to 69 Hz):
For fiberglass -- 12 1/8 in^2 square 37 3/4" tall, using 1.1 pounds of stuffing
for polyester -- 11 in^2 42 7/8" tall with 0.84 pounds of stuffing.
(tuned to Fs=63 Hz):
For fiberglass -- 11 9/16 in^2 square 41 3/4" tall, using 1.08 pounds of stuffing
for polyester -- 10 1/2 in^2 47 1/4" tall with 0.84 pounds of stuffing.

thanks for the number crunching
Thanks Dave,
I am going to order the drivers and maybe get some time to build them next month.
