Maybe the chip is in a chip holder as well? If so, replacing the actual chip will be a doddle. My part looks exactly like the top picture. The one I'm replacing looked the same but was nearly 1 1/2 times bigger.

Andy maybe you can clarify...is a doddle dandy, or not so handy?Maybe the chip is in a chip holder as well? If so, replacing the actual chip will be a doddle.

Yes, but the OPA1612 is SOIC-only, so it will need a SOIC-to-DIP adapter. Not a big deal, just a little soldering. The OPA 1612 ( a bi-polar device) is an EXCELLENT choice for low-impedance sources (microphone, phono cartridge, most line-level applications). But for GUITAR usage (high source impedance), the OPA1642 (also SOIC-only) is the better choice--it's an FET and will have lower noise; also FETs usually sound better to most guitarists. Is it possible to replace the NE5532 with OPA1612 in my preamp?
