TL vs vented: transient issues

brines acoustics has a couple of helpful articles on the subject that help compress some of the info. Low Qts drivers are more difficult to work with, from what I have found. I am currently designing one for an ALtec 416. INteresting thing is to see how adding series resistance changes the outcome. Gives you an idea of high Zo amp does to the effective Vb of a box.

The 1/3 is an approximation. You shoul model the design in MJK's model sheets. Many ML-Vs have offset at 50%.

The configuration works well with a suitable driver.

Yes, I need to purchase MLK's worksheets and the demo MathCAD. This is a step up in complexity from the WinISD.

12 '' diameter cone makes a gigantic speaker .
Too much air in motion in the pipe, a lot of weight.
That would really bring some transient issue

The cabinet will likely be large, but with the low Qts driver is is likely to have a small CSA. Most likely it will end up a hybrid TL-BR. High air velocity is one reason why I want a minimal stuffing design. TL design does not have to be just for wimpy FR 5" SET driven esoterica

Seems this is the fight I am having at the moment. Only way top avoid it that I have figured out is to go LARGE. FOr my drivers, REAL LARGE. Here is a link to my thread if anybody wants to chime in. I have played with many different vairations.

Qts determines how quickly it rolls off on the low end, correct.
