time to try to get my feet wet<<1st post>>
1st post
lot of reading saw some very cool designs
I want to start my projector
i want to get a 100in screen
distance from lense to screen 156in
7inch lilliput
i want to put this in a enclosure
16x8x8in
not sure of fresnel placement or triplet placement
or lens size,
would the ideal projection lens be 260mm for my setup??
i used a equation TO FIND FOCAL LENGHTH
(DIST-FOCAL LENGTH)*(LCD SIZE)
PROJ DIAG SIZE= -------------------------------------------
FOCAL LENGTH
anyone seen prism in any designs??
check this site out--some cool stuff>

a great lens, but not for projector
I am using a Rodenstock Apo Ronar, but it is 65 mm diameter. The lens you found is only 270/11 = 24.5 mm diameter! Much too small for a projector. You would get a very sharp image, but it would be very dim since most of the light would miss the lens.
How about making a smaller and brighter screen image? You could get one of LumenLab's 80 mm diamter 320 mm fl triplets for only $29 that would work great for your LCD. At 156" throw distance, it would give you an 80" screen image. They also have fresnels lenses to work with that projector lens.
There are also some copy machine lenses in the 240 - 300 mm fl range. You can try watching surplusshed for a while to see if they get any. Another option is to find an old overhead projector at a yard sale, etc. and then use the lens and fresnels from that.
If you want cheap, look at goodmart.com for a 4200 K color temperature 400 Watt clear MH bulb you can run on a standard coil & core ballast. Find one in a small single-ended cylinder-shaped bulb instead of the great big giant oval shape. The bulb & ballast should be less than $100 total.

so far
i have a psone screen <21.25>
and a
290 mm fl Fujinon tessar copy lens <in transit> <7.50>
next big thing will be the ballast and bulbs
i suppose there is no such thing as a uv blocking
glass fresnel, or is there?? that would be cool
what about the heat filter or the Dichroic Filters
----see link>>

speaking of fresnels
will the LLabs fresnel be a good choice with the lens??
or i saw a few of these-->on ebay .99 cents but with a 300mm focal length-->>
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=67919&item=5756093672&rd=1
what are some of the shortest focal length fresnel that you have seen??
Thanks Again
i cant wait to get everything figured out as far as the material list, i just got this IMAX michael Jordan DVD @ target 4 about $5.99

fresnels & filters
PVC fresnels like that 99 cent eBay ripoff are crap. You need acrylic or glass.
The LumenLab set with a 317 mm fl field fresnel would be a bit too short for the 290 mm fl copy lens. That would give you a dim image.
A 330 mm fl field fresnel would fit perfectly with the 290 mm fl lens. Here is such a set of fresnels for $20:
http://www.3dlens.com see OHP page item# OHP280
With your throw distance, the LCD to lens distance will be 313 mm, so you can put both fresnels together about 20 mm before the LCD. Put the lamp arc 210 mm from the fresnels, to match the other fresnel focal length.
Here is a reasonable choice for IR filter glass:
http://www.diyprojectorcompany.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=26&products_id=80
Much cheaper and easier to use than most of the alternatives.
For a UV filter, you can buy a transparency UV filter sheet from DIYBuilderGroup or LumenLab for <$10. Or you can use a piece of Lexan XL10 you buy at Home Depot. Very good UV blocker and it can support your thin plastic fresnels.

reflector and condenser
i got the UHI-S400DD USHIO -400 bulb from atlanta lightbulbs
not to sure on a reflector, but thought about going to the hardwarestore and picking something up,
i didn't want to end up making an easy bake oven but wanted somthing decent
i saw this for a reflector online
http://www.dr.ca/e_pcercle.html
Aspheric Condenser Lenses
http://www.edmundoptics.com/onlinecatalog/DisplayProduct.cfm?productid=2454
Aspherically Contoured Fresnel Lenses
http://www.edmundoptics.com/onlinecatalog/DisplayProduct.cfm?productid=2039
i would love to get somthing locally, like soup reflector, but not to sure if that would be a good fix,
i got the 3dlens.com fresnells
i am heading out now to window shop for soup reflectors just to see if there are any shiny ones
p.s <<thanks again guy you help me again with the below post, for lens light etc placement>>

center of lcd has a dark circle.....
i did some searching and found that it could be one of 2 things,
1 oil from fingers on fres, lcd
or 2 the light has focused directly on the lcd in the center , i have the glass ,uv and ir protection, cooling is decent,
anything else i should add to the to do list?
also,
what would be a good thing to use to clean the fresnel lens, it has the residue from electrical tape on it.
it is left over from the 1st mock up
