Yeah, 'went down this road' and damping just the bells of the sectoral horns is sufficient for the vast majority of folks, ditto bolted/sealed to a box [not so much the 'horn in vent' configuration though] with either damping the perimeter of the mouth [foam or similar 'horn' extension] or lightly stuffing it to quell reflections back to the throat having the most audible impact for many, so for the most 'HIFI'/overall smoothness response, recommend doing some form of both mass loading and internal reflections reduction and if not already used, then clamping/bracing [mass loading] its driver to the cab.

Hows this for a four way?

It was dead quiet. Images as you would expect, superb. Simply stunning.
Quad amped per side. Active 4 x 2 eq. Special pre amp. Special horns.
The tape I listened to the Opas 3 analogue recording, volume III. These Master's are $4000 each. More than most people spend on their entire systems.
I was really longing for some good LPs. Their selection was a lot of Classical Master vinyls. I had the jones for some Doors or Dire Straights or Showdown. Heck even the Onkyo '93 Disc is a lot of fun.
Interesting there was a lot of gear that was good to very good, not great. I could hear the flaws in many of the systems, speakers, etc. I've gotten my own system very very good. Yes I hear the flaws of it at times, other times it just rocks.
Even my little girl wants to listen and have the music going. She can pick up on things.
Then at the fest, I had to keep her from stepping on the tone arm or following my look to the rear of the gear. So we went out and she found a friend and played, which was good.
Cheers,

Yup.. It was way more work than any of us bargained for.. We initially had a lot of problems with phono playback, partly due to my design philosophy of placing most of the gain in the phono stage, and because of the turntable's proximity to the right bass cabinet. Charlie's StellaVox was great and will be coming here for a visit soon. 😀 Just got back late this afternoon.
LSAF was very poorly attended this year which a tremendous shame because the sound in most of the rooms was quite good.

Ahhh, the rest of the story. That explains why the Stellavox was the primary source on Sunday.
Well there was the NRA National Convention, along with the International Guitar Show, which siphoned off more people then you would imagine. I enjoyed a few of the presentations which were interesting but not quite long enough it seems.

Tape in general is superior to vinyl if you can get master quality tape, and that was the determining factor. (As you noted tape is an expensive medium, good master quality tapes run depending on length and provenance from anywhere from $50 [lucky score] to $600 or more for 10.5 inch reels.) The turntable, arms and one cartridge were provided by Mockingbird Distribution and the phono pre-amp is one of mine that belongs to a friend.
I did play some vinyl later in the morning and everything worked reasonably well.
The AA 4 way system is certainly the best sounding system I have heard overall, and have access to several decent systems in addition to mine, which in a to the thread topic is sort of time aligned horns + diy Onkens, but went all active a few days before LSAF.

Well next time let me know ahead of time, it's always refreshing to meet the DIYAudio folks in person.
