It's pretty easy to "jack" threads. I'm sure you have done this yourself. Sometimes it's rather hard to _only_ talk about the topic.

I prefer to think of it as "conversation at the dinner table". It most always gets back to topic.

For threads that go wildly OT for several posts, there's always the "Topic Split" buttons

Many times it is unavoidable and natural since the thread is similar to a conversation. As long as things wander back on topic before too long.
