I've been lead to believe that they existed (TT filament) in the earlier mono-plate guise.. any confirmation available on this?.. thanks.

I doubt it.
Thoriated Tungsten requires an operating temperature of 2000 K which poses a challenge to reach with only 2.5V at the designer's disposal.
That combined with the area you will need to cover with cathode for a mono plate will make any solution very complex and expensive..

I have some 1608 tubes (2.5V, 2.5A filament).
1608, Tube 1608; Röhre 1608 ID15437, Transmitting Triode, ai
Mostly TT filament tubes has large anode impedance, hence not so comparable to 2A3 family tubes.
