Well.. I took apart my Benq FP557 (NOT the FP557s).. which rapsac has taken apart successfully but apparently my internal LCD is different, I have two controller boards connected by a flat cable!@
Can someone confirm that I do indeed have to either extend the cable or pick up a new monitor?
Thanks 🙁

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Are the 2 flat ribbon cables on the lower part of the image the only two that go directly into the LCD? If so, then I don't see why you'd need to extend anything at all - it looks good from what I can see! Feel free to email me photos at astaples@diylabs.org if you need to send a lot of stuff.
Not good.
Hi there,
This monitor is no good. I purchased the same one 4 monhs ago and found that the two boards are connected. On Sadd3j's picture you can actually see the flat cable between the two boards. You would need to extend it and it might or might not be succesful.
Cheers,
Exipnos.

Ribbon cable extensions
Ah yes, now I see what you mean. It was late last night when I posted that and I wasn't thinking straight. I do think that would be a good panel though - not very many wires to extend (about 10-15?). If you aren't going to use that monitor, I might buy it from you depending on the specs. But I really do think that it would be worth your time to make the extension by soldering directly onto the board where the socket for the ribbon cable is soldered to the board - it's really hard to find panels that can be modded for a DIY projector.

I would not even touch that panel unless you solder ic boards for a living (or your a pro an have a nice pace soldering iron 🙂). Before you do manually extend the cables, take a look in a digikey catalog for an extention piece (or even fax/email them a picture of the cable you need. They carry tones of ribbon cables and extenders (if you ask around over the phone im sure you can find a place to custom make a cable which [i hope] is cheaper than breaking the panel. Just a thought. I be even if you got some sort of universal ribbon cable, you could cut the existing cable in half and use that to affix the two piecies (with a lot of patients of coarse. I know you already have a nec 1545v? You should sell the burden of the cable extending on ebay 🙂.
