They don't make them like this anymore...

This +40 years old Merc W123 did survive 4 days in a flooded garage in the big floodings in Valencia, Spain.

The newsrports says that it started at first try. I don't know if that is true, but it did start and drive itself out of the garage, covered in mud.

I see no modern car do that. And even most oldeer cars won't do it neighter. Even Mercedes doesn't do this anymore. Those old ones were complete overbuild and as reliable as can be. But sadly that is not the case anymore...

In 1976 Houston suffered a 15" rain in 90 minutes one afternoon. My wife had a sales job at Nieman-Marcus across town, and was nervous about driving her '68 Rambler American. So I drove her in my '59 Ford Ranch Wagon. Water went over the exhaust and the drive tunnel. Our shoes & socks were wet. But we got there and back. Next weekend I changed the engine oil, transmission fluid, differential fluid, brake fluid, anti-freeze. Was a rubber mat model, so no carpet problems. I still have the car. Tough old bird. I ran over a railroad tie once on the West Loop, 55 mph. all 4 wheels. No alignment required.

Merc was almost certainly a Diesel (couldn't really tell by the sound).

Hey Jo, my Dad had a 1968 Rambler Rebel - a rare bird over here. They were built here by a company called Australian Motor Industries from CKD kits imported from the US. He also had an Ambassador SST but the Rebel was my favourite as a kid.
