I can understand a monotheist believing consciousness not requiring physical reality but how do you explain the opposite?

ahaha, I stopped to smoke because the polution ! I still drink beers though : Schrödenbourg... 100% poison guaranted after few years whatever the door ! Knowledge didn't fullfill my own ears.

again this is certainly due to how we process + group consciousness that works fine on it. If you have a "weaker" consciousness than it naturally is, then some people let you believe all sort of things : politics, religion, superstitions, aliens already there, strings theory hifi should cost one billion and so on!
Questionning with us being more powerfull than answering doesn't mean it doesn't call an answer, be it stupid... we are both lazy and anxious with that mechanism! psychological factor as wrote C. Darwin member.
collective consciousness may be more powerfull than individual and that's how you fall in a guru sect or put butter in your coffe (answer must be as simple as the question, lol!), projecting human characters on so called divinities as if what exist would turn around our little species ! Some imho understood it and all those believes are certainly made by smarter people wanting controlling the others for different purpose : working less, having monney, advantages, ego, easy sex, power, ego and so on ! Well why not all is about cursor !
It's certainly due to our perception because the evolution around a very two dimensions environment for our sense (all is answering to the principle of causality : fire burn, water wets = conclusion by experience) which needs a substrate : it's binary, dual, like questionning and answering !
Philosophers from antic times, then layers working on that idea, scientists later with more objective rules then quantum and relativity finders proved it was a trap.
Collective consciousness by heritage (i.e. writting the knowledge in marble not to re invent the wheel) is why we are a little more efficient... but we stay on the same scale than other species more or less. That said it doesn't mean than answering faculty being superior to our hability to answer, means than we ask the good questions ! But again iterative process and knowledge that survive from generations push us towards a collective consciousness which has not to reinvent the wheel (whatever the answers are accurate or not, they seems to progress anyway).
So consciousness exists because the language...maybe, imho and of course YMMV.😀 (as far we can talk about it without being b...urned ! 😀). Then if you ask about consciousness and it stop you to sleep then take a xanax or whatever is smokable or drinkable, or found a sect and take holydays on the shoulders of naives !
