Folks..the yellowstone cadera eruption is at least 40 000 years overdue.....it will, at the very least, wipe the USA of the face of the earth....and probably much of life on the planet in the medium term...

doom & gloom
But then there might be a depression....
Happy days...
Much more likely is an eruption of one of the Canaries volcano's which is predicted to wash away much of coastal Europe 🙂SY said:When's that asteroid supposed to hit England?

Re: doom & gloom
Actually......No.....there is an island just off the noth-western coast of Africa that is giong to generate a sunami of sufficient height to wipe out most of eastern seaboard usa...True!

Re: Re: doom & gloom
What about the rest of the North Atlantic sea coast, or is this a discriminating sunami?mikek said:

I didn't describe well but:
The Canaries are off the north African coast.
The eruption will cause a void, which will cause an inrush and subsequent Tsunami.
The predicted direction of the Tsunami' main energy is northward.

Hey the prediction by the "BBC scientists" is even worse than the original predictions! The USA gets it too! Jolly good 😉mikek said:
The Yellowstone supervolcano is real. Discovery channel did a simulation program on it not too long ago. Quite interesting. Not likely to happen in our lifetimes.
La Palma, the island mentioned earlier, is a disaster waiting to happen. Thankfully things are fairly stable for now but a decent eruption of the Cumbre Vieja Volcano could be unlike anything man has experienced in recent times. If the side of that island decides to slide into the ocean, well bye bye Florida.

Or not likely to happen at all. I believe the scientific consensus is that the volcano is not dormant but dead. Long dead.
It doesn't matter to me anyway because in the meantime, the state of Texas will be lifted heavenward by forces hitherto unknown and all Texans shall bask in glory and salvation throughout eternity. Because we have really good Mexican food.

Where does that leave Mexico, have they not even better Mexican food?
It is little known that lying underneath one of America's areas of outstanding natural beauty - Yellowstone Park - is one of the largest supervolcanoes in the world. Scientists have revealed that it has been on a regular eruption cycle of 600,000 years. The last eruption was 640,000 years ago... so the next is overdue.
So if it happens a couple thousand years from now, maybe I can get a couple more incarnations in before the big one.

Apparently they are trying to earn enough to eat at McDonald's. The height of 'arrival', if there ever was such a thing.
Re: La Palma:
IIRC from the new scientist article from a couple of years ago, there are 2 Cubic Km (0.5 cubic miles) of rock waiting to slide into the sea. The tsunami will knock out no only florida, but, as said above, the Eastern Seaboard. The Med will not be badly affected, due to the small size of the Straits of Gibralter. France will be badly hit on the West coast, but The UK will be mostly Ok (waves of approx. 2 or 3m).
