That would be difficult... they are now delayed till April per their website...

Hi KM,
BTW, looking at that site you will find tube designations like E812CC which is told there to be a SQ version of ECC82.
Sadly, that will be just another break of the "naming rules", because there already is a real tube called ECC812 in existence (it is a specialized chroma amp tube for TV sets and had been produced by RTF, La Radiotechnique France, a member of the Philips group).
Hence E812CC should designate a SQ version of said ECC812, but not of ECC82.
Just another example of marketing people confusing things, I suppose. Admittedly, the naming scheme has inconsistencies already, but no reason to add even more confusion.

Tom Schlangen

It might all be moot anyway, under the current economic conditions I would be surprised if they can find the marketing traction let alone funding required to make these a commercial reality.
There has been very little news lately about this venture other than that they are still working on refining the concept, and that the introduction date is once again delayed.

Kevin,
I didn't want to say it.... but I suspect you're probably right for the reasons noted. The fact that they found technical problems and had to go back and re-engineer stuff is also not promising, considering what their actual sales could be. I guess April is the next checkpoint here.

Tom,
Yup... marketing at it's best (yet another oxymoron)... I kinda doubt anyone is left from the days of making real Mullard tubes, so a new crew looking at a new attempt armed with some history and possibly some old drawings. If they ever come to fruition, I'd be game for a set of the ECC82 replacements, but I have ample stock of NOS 5814A tubes which are excellent.... bettering these could be a hurdle.

Hi!
I'm rather new user of this forum, but have a great interest to the vacuum tube technology and making equipments with it, predominantly audio and high frequency amplifiers.
Has anyone recognised that the manufacturer has not mentioned anything about the noise or noisyness of these newbies?
I don't even find any markings of the total harmonic distortion from that specification sheets their have puplished...
I really hope that they could manufactured a whole lot better tubes than any of these nowadays (mostly bad) new production copies from the past.

I wonder which tubes will be better: The ones that are made now that say “Mullard” on them (that have nothing in common with the original Mullards,) or the future “Techtube” ones that are made “on the site” that the original Mullards were made? Are we supposed to believe that there is some residual positive karmic tube mojo floating around on the Blackburn site?” If there were, these ongoing problems and delays wouldn’t be happening.
Perhaps the Ghost of Tubes Mullard is the cause of all the ongoing startup problems. 😉

hmm, again I won't knock them, as there are so few and all new valves are useful, but it does go against wisdom to OVERprice new valves, my criticism for some new issues.
they are still maintainging at around £26uk, used to be about $50 US.
They are only about 30 miles as the crow flies from me!!
I wonder where they got r/d and funding/tooling/expertise for this??? and to maintain research/redesign for months more.....
interesting all the same...but it does seem they are aiming more for guitar market, and observations are that they won't wish to pay over the odds, like hifi fusspots may
ecc81, 2 and 3 coming perhaps.....
I predict if it gets off the ground, they may 'sell' ??? to many retailers at first, a few triers, then sales settle a little, and if still to dear, will sink a bit and may allow them to be mildly profitable, and maintain, or sink like a stone, to be forgotten.
perhaps to be bought by chinese then, and reintroduced as part of a range.....

I am certainly in the dark on this tube...is it currently available...if so where? Is it made 100% in the Blackburn factory? With one of the main ecological concerns of valve manufacture being the use of Barium, how do the remedy this? I am quite excited about this...I want to try one in a few SE amps I have. 😎
😀

Bluntly, there really is nothing much to recommend these. These guys have close to 0 street cred at this point and in any event there are plenty of good 12AX7A in production right now and for a fraction of the price. Lots of hype and little else... No they're not available, and barring some sort of miracle they have a very slim chance of making it even if they had salable product at this point. IMO they are priced far outside of their target market, they don't really know how to make audio tubes, (they are not the only ones with this claim to fame) and at best they have demonstrated absolute cluelessness about marketing and given that the odds are probably pretty long..
The ExpoPul made Mullard reproductions are much closer to the original Mullards than the TechTubes product will be. Basically these tubes have nothing tangible to do with Mullard except that they are built in the same building.

I've got e-mail distribution from them about some famous artists describing their tubes using non-technical terms, something like "They sound like a banana taste of lovely kiss during Hawaiian night". However, words were different.
I asked to clarify, but they did not answer my technical questions. So I made the conclusion, they don't expect to attract engineers to their production, so marketing is targeted on end users of a tube gear who are far from technical details.

I have an article from Vintage Guitar Mag where they compared 12 brands of 6V6s. I looked forward to the article since most of my amps use them and I could finally get some objective info on the alternatives. I expected something like frequency response or clipping range but it was all mumbo jumbo. Here are some quotes:
RCA 6V6GT: “..barbecued low-end..nuclear huge bloom,
….sublime delivery..”
Marconi 6V6G: “..sweet caramelized midrange…”
I like barbeque and caramel but I don’t know what those sounds like from a tube amp.

It would be interesting to find, who invented difference of sounds of tubes on highs, midranges, lows? 😀

Well my bubble is certainly busted....good thing it's monday.
To Kevin: Thanks for being point blank and succinct.
To Jiman: I ended my VG script a while back when I really noticed their predjudicial viewpoints...not to mention their penchant for B.S.
To Wavebourne: Nothing like the hotseat for culling the crap from the fold...works with vacuum tubes as well
I guess I had the dream of a new dawn in vacuum tube production..a guy can dream can't he? I still have a few NOS Bugle Boys, Tesla ECC803S, and various other tubes to rely on for now. I may have to break down and try some of New Sensor's reissue tubes.
BTW what are your ( collective or individual ) opinions on current production tubes? Here are a couple of my likes, dislikes:
12AX7LPS by Sovtek: QUIET...good guitar amp tube
6L6GC SED Winged C label: Closest thing to Tunsol since, well, Tungsol. They also make a pretty nice EL34
JJ: not impressed by any of their tubes...maybe the E34L if you can still get them...😱

With regard to http://www.techtubevalves.com/news/index.php :
OH MY GOD; THEY ARE JUST FULL OF AUDIOPHILE BULL5H1T.
I am deeply, deeply disappointed.

Marketing...
forget the marketing bollox seen on the news page...
Non technical marketing guys just trying to give this valve a bit of hype...
Yup, I agree, very dissapointing reading that latest news from them--Personally I hate 'audiophile' technobabble which for the most part is totally meaningless drivel
Ive emailed them to get a price to buy just one valve to review/test/experiment with....
we see what the response is....😀
