Having trouble "saving link as ..." and clicking on it tries to launch powerpoint which then cannot open it.

It is a zipped Excel spread sheet. Download, save, extract the spread sheet, and open with Excel.

I understand all that. Windows must be trying to think for me. It seems to automagically assume it's a .ppt, rather than letting me download it as is, i.e. *.zip. When I download it, my computer launches powerpoint and then claims it can't open it (duh). Anybody using firefox have similar difficulties?

that's instead "attachment.php" what you have as default , downloading stuff from this sort of forum platforms

I had s similar problem. I downloaded it to my desktop and added:
.zip to the icon name. Then I extracted the files and theyworked great
