Cathode follower? We had a bunch of those in da radar system - but they didn't have that sneaky pentode tubby thing (hmmmmmm - not sure - it's been over 40 years ago) in the circuit. If you hook enough of them up in series you can reduce you signal level to almost zero output (due to losses).....

Same thing for common emitter configurations - so why all of the excitement?
