The Pass Pub: The High-End Off Topic Thread

A true man has two ways to die:
1. For a woman,
later if he was survived the first
2. Because of a woman.
What a pity that I was unable to discuss this with my son.

I don't know you understand what I want to say, but maybe.

The less fortunate get a heart attack, stroke or die of cancer.

Something more cheerful, perhaps?

I have a kind of Jens Rassmussen 300W Leach amplifier.
I built this in 2008, I was immediately killed it.
One channel I fixed then, but the other one caught on me.
This deserves a new thread what do you think?
If not, I don't tire myself.

YES Gyuri, bring that amp back to life. I am sure that having built your Xono you can easily succeed.

If you need to build an amp, it's just some kind of Lego.
It does not take a genius.
If it goes wrong and you do not understand electronics, well, that's a problem.
But I thought if I repaired four Tektronix, it is not possible that it's screwing me!
So I dig it up, and repaired successfully.
I'm going to make a box for it now.🙂

There was mention of how they sound Pass amplifiers.
In this regard, I have some knowledge, as far as I built some clone, at least.
It's interesting how this Leach amp sounded?
Six years have passed, but I remember:
This amplifier is also a very likeable one.
But quite differently than Pass amps.
It has a very punchy (beat like a mallet), precise than the razor, so a big sound, lot of air.
But, seems to me, there isn't any romantic, like Pass amps.
If I would like to be vicious, it is the sound what is called lifeless.

Of course these are my equipments and viewpoints only.

It is my favourite review about Aleph:

Pass Labs Aleph 2 Amplifiers reviews - Audioreview.com

"Amazingly detailed and fluid. I find myself able to close my eyes and see the music which I was not able to do with the KSA250. If the music is discribing an medieval battle field, through the KSA250, you feel the cavaliars thundering and you see knights charging at their enemies in a storm of dust. With the Aleph 2, you see the knights charging, waving their swords, eyes wide open, you might even smell their sweat. But there is no dust storm. You might call that the weakness of these amps. As for me, I'll prefer to touch the flowers than to feel the thunder, any time."

Pörkölt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Excerpt from above page:

"Much of the quality of a pot of pörkölt is found in the use of the very few ingredients. The spiciness and the taste of the paprika powder used is very important to the taste. A simple Hungarian trick for making good pörkölt is first frying the onions in lard or oil, before making anything else. Then set aside the pot and immediately add paprika powder and the meat and "stir-fry" – (this is the origin of the verb pörkölni – to roast). This way the juices are kept inside. Water is added, the same volume as the meat. Pörkölt should be simmered slowly in very little liquid. Flour should never be used to thicken a Hungarian pörkölt. In Hungary pörkölt is served with pasta (tészta), tarhonya (big Hungarian pasta grains) or galuska/nokedli as a side dish. Boiled potato is also a common garnish, and pickles go with the dish nicely counterbalancing the heavy stew with a touch of sour."

They describe it almost exactly as I usually make it.
Except that we ate it yesterday with rice.
The little blue pot filled with salad of beetroot.

Today, the remaining half, (which was seen second picture) will be served with nokedli.
