The Omni Ring

I've built almost any kind of exotic loadspeaker: planars, ribbon, Rubanoid and of course AMTs.

My last endeavour will start with four of these:

This will be a real time adventure as usual, so there will for sure be bumps on the trip.

First I got rid the net and its fasteners:

More later...

The idea is to use six three inch mid elements on one ring and six two inch tweeters on second ring above the first one.
The rings are either mounted on the wall or on a floor stand. They will in my case be mounted on the subs.
Each element will have its own cabinete and will thus be adjustable along the rings and can also tilted up or down.

Each cabinete will be 120 mm wide at the ring corresponding to 30°.
Putting them close together will form a half circle.

The elements are left overs from an old project of mine with 3D printed cabinetts.
They are not ideal for the tasks, but if this works out I can replace them with better ones.

The mids and tweeters will be activily driven by one ampifier and one DAC-channel for each range.
Some individual shading can be done.

At this point I have two design considerations:
  • First is if it is feasible to let the two inch tweeter have a shallow waveguide.
  • Second is if the mid/bass should have ports to extend theirs low end.
