Dear Mr.Pass,if I only use one pair STE48NM50 for the output stage, does it support 100W output. 130V is really high, can we lower it,like +-60V,does it still work?Elsewhere on the forum our friend Rob (n3szd) wants to build a 1000 watt
single-ended amplifier.
On the one hand, I sympathize with excess enthusiasm in a project.
On the other hand, I take no responsibility for the results of posting the
following schematic.
Anyone who attempts to build such a thing is probably asking for trouble.
You have been warned...
😎
Best Regards
Leo
Yeah I did this a while back but with 30V rails using a single pair of IXYS hockey pucks.
Bias was 2A to 2.6A. Just a rough indication.
Can't remember exactly but I wrote about it somewhere.

Great, would you please share you built schmatic?thanks.
This one had a J2 type front end. I also have a circuit with to220 input.
Skinning The Mu Monster Cat - Mini Style
If you annoy me enough I will either find it or redraw it.
thank you very much for you sharing this.Just reply in your post.really appreaciate if you can give any comments.

220 input means Mr.Pass front end?
I have the 2SJ109V in my hand.
2SJ109 will not survive 60V.
Maximum 24V.
So you either use MOSFETs for the input, or cascode the JFETs with MOSFETs.

For 100Wrms into 8R, you will need 5A 40V.
That means 45V rails, 2.5A bias, pure Class A.
Since Nelson was using them at 130V 1A, you will be within that window.
This is also confirmed by datasheet.
At 45V rails, you either have to use a PMOS for the frontend.
Or if you want to use your 2SJ109, you need to cascode them with P-MOS.
And you will have to change the CCS and the drain resistors to suit the lower bias.
(Say 20mA total instead of 50mA as in post #1)
But as Nelson said in post #1 :
"Anyone who attempts to build such a thing is probably asking for trouble.

IXFN50N120SIC Ciss only 1900pf but STE48NM50 a litter bit high 3700pf.does it really impact the performance.

ST does not offer any Spice model for the STE48NM50.
So I have to pick the closest there is.
This is just simulation.
It shows you how it could be done.
But it has not been built, so build at your own risk.
I won't have time to nurse you through this.
Cheers,
Patrick
PS you need to unzip and then put them all in the same directory before you can run.

I have some k216/J79 PMOS in my hand too. also cannot found the IXFN50N120SiC spice model that used by 2 picoDumbs mini version
I guess I can try it.I have the heatsink to support this.for the power supply, the 45V rails/2.5 base current, the power transformer should at 40V AC/15A support both channel.
@2 picoDumbs does your mini version DC offset stable?

thank you very much.I just download the LTSpice to study use it.it worked well this time.but lots of parameter do not know and do not how to set it.Need a litter bit more time.ST does not offer any Spice model for the STE48NM50.

I have IXFN140N20P in my hand, using to build pass 50W SE amp.can I use this guy for the output?
recheck the IXFN50N120SiC datasheet, strange to me that it does not provide the Pd - Power Dissipation
IXFN140N20P - yes, with care of not exceeding 6-7A in any moment - take a look at SOA graph in datasheet, observing conditions for DC
plenty of fun lately with pucks as that - lhquam recently made his iteration combined with SIT (tread alive, search) , there is more links and iinfo in few first posts of The Singing Bush

Two of these with the secondaries in series for a start?
