G'day all, last night I was about to place an online order for some NE5532 op amps from my usual online supplier but I find that they list several versions of the NE5532 (NE5532AP, NE5532P and probably others!)
The specs all look the same but there is an appreciable difference in price between these two items! Can anybody tell me what the differences are? I presume it is a 'noise' difference, or is it? I am after the 'quietist' version. It is very confusing! Regards, Felix.

A is the lowest guaranteed noise option. The rest is unimportant, other than TI's 5532s are said not to measure as low on THD as others.
Unfortunately low noise, low THD comes at a premium with any electronic part options or there would be no demand for standard parts.

You could also do worse than go with the 5532's successor, the LM4562 which offers a step up in performance all round (and its considerably quieter if your application is designed to exploit those limits).
G'day all, I've decided to go with the LM4562 but the only version I can presently buy is the 'powerwise' version. Does anyone know what 'powerwise' means? Regards, Felix.
I've never come across the term before but see that all Farnell descriptions of the part now have this term. The TI data sheet (latest 2013 issue and revised) makes no mention of it.
I would be 100% certain that nothing has changed with the device, if it had it would be a different part/device number.

I think its just part of marketing hype aimed at non-professionals or those otherwise dabbling in microprocessor control and audio systems. Certainly, there's no mention of any special enhancement or change in the products.
