My new HT/screen
I have been working on revamping my HT set up. After being convinced that 72" was not big enough, I set out to rearrange my home theatre area for a 100+ inch screen.
My new screen is just a white wall. I painted some gray around the screen for some contrast. I must say, I am much happier with my image colors on a white screen versus a grey screen.
I'll put up some screen shots later.
I think with the larger screen image, I will eventually want to get a TV-3000 so my picture will be clearer. I am pretty happy with it but images of small things don't come out very clear.
I can't wait to watch movies like Daredevil on my system. Can you believe the price of going to the theatre nowadays. At $9 per person for a non matinee ticket plus food I could easily be spending $60+ to take my family of 4 to a movie. Movies com out on video/dvd so quickly nowadays after being at the theatres I won't have to wait too long to see the big movies. After 2 movies, I would have saved enough to buy my TV-3000. I'm such a cheapskate! lol
I still would like to make some more improvements. Can anyone tell me if I would see a drastic improvement if I projected onto a piece of Plastex instead of drywall (painted white)? I think that would be worth the investment. I had decided that the screen goo was too expensive ($130 for my screen)

Hi qwkbird,
Did you ever build your Plastex screen? If you did, how does it compare to a plain white wall?
Did you ever sell your tv-3000? I am still interested in getting one. I got a little valentines money, but I am on a budget.
If you want, you can email me at parkandsusan@yahoo.com
I'm really enjoying my system, but I know it can get better.
Thanks

Wow rydad! Fantastic website and setup!! I am so jealous,
I just got a sharp qa-1200, but am still waiting for my
OHP (Buhl 2953)... really liked seeing the difference
between your before and after pictures... btw- I also
have Altec Lansing AVS300 speakers!! Just got 'em.. LOL..
funny how cheap skaters think alike 😉 - they are a great pair
of speakers for the price..!!
I am trying to find any examples of Plas-tex screens..
if you know any, post a link.. if I find I will post it here too.
What kind of paint did you use? Semi-gloss or Satin? or Flat?
I would assume Satin is the best amount of reflection...
I recently painted my interior satin bright white.. hopefully
I can just use my walls to project on.
Negative Design, we still have to see your results!
I wanna see how the qa-1200 does with 8000 lumens man!! 😉
Thanks guys for your posts!!
PS. this is definitely cheaper than the theaters.. and cheaper
than upgrading from my little 13" tv to a 32" !!
I was at costco, looking at those DVD-TV combos.. the quality
sucks, considering the deinterlaced video... I am using
a HTPC with DVD and Divx movies (using a Matrox G200 Mystique, an old card, but incredibly high quality). I would suggest
skipping the tv-3000 and buying a cheap mobo/case combo..
my HTPC cost me $250 (no monitor) for a 1.4 ghz AMD with
all the works (sound, ethernet, modem, etc).. the quality
will be much better...
Check out pricewatch.com for good deals and Fatwallet.com forums... plus you can turn it into a Tivo with showshifter or snapstream... this is the way to go man!!!

Hi Guys,
I just love it when I get one of those little emails saying there was a reply to a post!
I haven't done much lately with my DIY theatre. It seems that no one else in the family wants to come down to my theatre to watch with me. They say it's too cold downstairs. I like it cool...Oh well, i guess it's my private theatre now.
Regarding the paint I used. Right now I only have Behr white primer on the wall. I didn't want to spend anymore money on paints until I had a better ideal of what a better paint I should use. I really would like to use Goo, but its just too expensive, especially since no one wants to share the experience with me. I'll tell you this, I refuse to spend $9 per person ($9 x 4) + probably $25 for snacks at the theatre anymore.
I still plan to repaint my "smaller" screen (the 72 inch one on my web site) with the Pearlescent paint I bought earlier. I know it worked well, I just wasn't initially happy with the viewing angle.
I watched Spiderman this morning on my system. It was pretty cool. Now everyone was complaining about how loud it is. Of course I have a habit of waking up at 4:00 am. I guess I can use some headphones in the morning.
I want to revamp my website. Some of those other websites I have seen are sooooo nice.
Nice to hear from you guys.
Jimmy, keep up the workouts. IM me any time for more training tips.

Hi Jimmy,
I'm still around. I have often wondered how you were doing and how your exercise program was going. I hadn't seen you on AIM much recently either. I usually always have my computer on, but I'm not always sitting in front of the computer. Sorry for not keeping in touch. Not much has changed, still busy with little things around the house and still looking for a job.
I have recently finished building some of my DIY gym equipment for my garage/studio. So now I am ready for business....just need some clients.
I haven't done much on my DIY projector. It's pretty much finished and i am happy with it. But the family doesn't like to watch it downstairs where its colder. So I am designing a pull down screen from blackout cloth and pulldown curtain rod that a neighbor threw away. I can put this in the living room but I will only be able to watch it at night since too much light comes into this part of the house. The seating is more comfy in the living room anyways.
Anyone in Southern Cal need a personal Trainer or help designing a home gym set up? I have the lowest rates around! Sorry for the shameless plug...
Hope you're doing well Jimmy.
IM me, if I have time I always answer.
Park🙂
