The John Busch Estate. Drivers, speakers, amps, parts

You know, let this be an object lesson in preparing for old age and death. I am 66 years old, and my wife and I have already started to clean out the house and give away things to organizations that can use them, friends, etc. Part of this is the result of seeing what other friends have to deal with when parents/uncles/aunts pass away, and another is seeing what I had to deal with after my parents passed away in the last 5 years. I don't want my daughter to be saddled with the "clean out the house" task after our deaths. Keep things only of real value for memories.
I can share a bit of a sad story with a similar theme. About 12 years ago I was coordinating a local DIY club in NorCal. Out of the blue I got an email from a former attendee, asking if I would help him sell his driver stash. I think he was an ex-armed services radio tech who had never married and he was a bit of a hoarder of everything electronic - ham radio gear (he had a dismantled transmission tower in his back yard), audio, etc. Well to his great misfortune at the age of about 65 he had gotten a brain tumor diagnosis, and he had already had some surgery. He was not in good shape, and now had slurred speech and some cognitive disabilities. He told me he was not expected to live much longer and needed some money for bills, etc. Then he points to a bunch of boxed of NOS Dynaudio drivers and asks me to help him turn them into cash. At the I had been selling stuff myself on that new site, Ebay, so I told him that I would help him out. Unfortunately he had held onto these drivers so long that on many the foam surrounds had decayed and were partially missing and they did not command a very high price. He ended up a little bit disappointed in what he could get for them. I imagine much less than what he paid for them, new. He passed away not too many months later.

The moral is that eventually we will all meet our end, sooner or later. If we have hoards of gear, or storage units of them, the investment may never be realized. It's possible in some cases that the stuff might just go to the dump, and never be used at all. What a pity. I myself have a bunch of drivers that at one point I thought I would use in some speaker project or another, or were "great deals" at the time, yet they just sit there in my basement, still new in box, doing nothing. As a result I too have been thinking about a "cleaning out" event in the next year or so. Come and get it, or the like. Hopefully I can pass on some parts to others who will make good use of them.

Will do. But did you mean inductors?

To All:
If you see things that would would like, please post them here. That way a potential buyer of the lot will know that he has interest for parting it out.
That's @barryso idea, and it's a good one.

OK, I'm game. There are a pair of Widow Maker III's in that storage space. If the person who buys the lot is willing to ship them please let me know. There's also a pair of stand mounted Manzinita CV's that I'd gladly consider if the WMIII's are spoken for.

There's a pair of DIY Manzi's and DIY Ultra's in the house but none of John's commercial offerings. It'd be nice to have the DIY speakers meet their cousins. 🙂

It's better to have them boxed and shipped than spend the time and money on the road. It's over a 50 hour round trip from here.

Many thanks to whoever comes to rescue John's stuff.

No rules change. It has to be sold as a lot because there is no on there to break it up and ship it. Once someone buys it all, it's up to him to do whatever he wants with it. You'll have to deal with the buyer. 😉

Yes, of course, inductors. Although having a real live conductor in my living room would be the ulitmate hifi!

Anyway... the buyer could look at this thread and puruse everyone's wish list. No need to pass on anything and It should help with the sale.

Unless it is kept intact and sold as a lot any potential buyers would have no idea what to bid in dollars because of inventory fluxuations. It is not a good idea IMHO

It's my understanding that no individual parts will leave the storage shed. It will all go as one big lot.

The noise on this thread this morning is just a few of us hoping to convince the eventual owner of the lot to sell us some of the parts. It's just a wish list.
